Boat Club Members,
I'm proud to state that the Boat Club Board has been very busy working to make the Boat Club operate at its very best. This past month, the Board participated in a strategic planning event where we discussed Club goals and objectives to achieve over the next five years. We spent time updating our current Bylaws and Policies/Procedures as well. Sadly, our Boat Club Bylaws and Policies/Procedures have not been updated since 2004, and need an overhaul. The Board worked closely with a local attorney and nonprofit director to get the Bylaws updated and in legal compliance. For example, one of the Bylaws states what could be posted on the bulletin board within the Boat Club. This should not be in the Bylaws, but rather the policies/procedures manual. The Bylaws of an organization should outline the Boat Club's official purpose, mission, officers, membership, how meetings should be conducted, and when. Amendments to the Bylaws should rarely occur. The Boat Club's Policies/Procedures manual should outline in more detail the day-to-day operations and rules. Policies/Procedures are subject to change more often. In the attachment (in email sent to all members) you will find the new and improved Bylaws the Boat Club Board has approved, and will present to the membership for approval at the 2021 annual meeting. I hope you will join me in supporting the changes to the Bylaws and creating a separate Policies/Procedures manual.
During the Strategic Planning meeting the Board also voted to hire a full time General Manager/Director for the Boat Club. We feel this position is necessary to allow members to have one contact when issues come up such as dock repairs, membership, dining, etc., rather than having to track down a volunteer Board Member. We look forward to hiring for this position in the fall. Additionally, the CBC Board discussed funding for much needed capital projects over the next several years. With projects, the biggest concern is always funding. The Boat Club membership dues were increased $50 in 2018. Dock fees and storage fees have been the same since 2015. The recent membership survey showed that the majority of the CBC membership would support an increase in dues. Therefore, come January, you will see a slight increase in membership dues, dock fees, storage fees, etc. The increase will simply support much needed CBC projects, staffing, dock maintenance, etc. well into the future. Thank you in advance for your understanding and in turn for supporting the much-needed increase.
